Mitchell's Breath Holding

Anymore Mitchell is generally content most of the day, except when he has to find a way to communicate his basic needs – hunger, need to sleep or having a hard time eliminating. When these times come on, we rush to attend to the matter. There are still times when he gets so upset he holds his breath. He holds it for 30 seconds to 1 minute and friends and family who have been around when he breath holds can attest… that minute or less is SCARY. When he breath holds, we try to jiggle him, sometimes that helps. We also blow on his face to try to get him to take a breath sooner. After each holding spell, it takes him a few seconds to recover and fortunately he has never passed out. I hear some children do this type of thing for effect and eventually grow out of it. Not sure if this will happen with Mitchie or if like other things “it’s neurological”, but we hope it improves over time.

In my humble opinion and as the mother of 2 boys, hold him back. He is so smart, they will tell you to send him, but do him (and yourself) a favor and hold him back.
