I have taken more enjoyment out of setting up some various things this summer than I ever expected. I think it’s because planning vacations and such seems like what most families do. What are we looking forward to this summer?
California Trip: I was asked to attend a conference for work being held in Carmel by the Sea, California. Poor me. The type of conference it is encourages spouses/SOs to come. Chris and I are obliging, adding on a couple days ahead of time in one of our favorites cities – San Francisco. We already have a reservation at The Grand Cafe, a very memorable dinner spot for us during our honeymoon. We also plan on catching a Giants game and taking a wine train tour. Fun!
Higher Ground Camp: Some friends are organizing a Family Camp experience in July at a place not far away in Indiana : www.hgcrc.org We are not campers (like that needs to be said to our friends!), but look forward to the organized time with friends doing crafts, hiking, having worship time, enjoying campfires and making smores! It's not really camping when you are staying in a motel-type room with 2 double beds, is it? (Mom, we'll need to borrow your portable DVD player for Luke!)
Luke’s Summer Camp: Luke is VERY excited about 2 "camp" weeks at his preschool. One in particular is pirate-themed so dress up time and opportunities for him to say "Aye Cap'n" will abound.
Disney Cruise & Disneyland: Chris' entire family is headed on a Disney cruise. We've heard they are fantastic so we cannot wait. When this idea was first being "floated" more than 12 months ago, I was concerned about whether we should plan on taking/not taking Mitchell. While there still are unique challenges presented by taking him along, we feel this trip will be wonderful for the entire family. So much so we figured we would not soon get ourselves to Orlando again and extended the trip to include a full day at Magic Kingdom. We are splurging a bit on the hotel so that we are on the monorail system there. That way, we won't have to worry about car seats and transportation ourselves. Proximity will also allow one of us to head back to the room should Mitchell need an extended break. Luke will be 4 by the time we go and we already know he will LOVE every minute of this trip from being with his cousins to seeing Mickey.
